It’s the little things that you miss
0When I was younger, we had a tradition at my house where on my birthday we’d all pile into the car and head up into the Northumberland Hills to a fancy restaurant/hotel called the Northumberland Heights. There, with the panoramic view of Lake Ontario and the decently sized hill that you had to climb to get there, I’d have what in my opinion was the best Weiner Schnitzel on earth. A slab of breaded pork perfectly seasoned that took up half the plate, covered liberally with lemon juice (they never had ketchup or what not, which in hindsight is a good thing), with tons of roasted potatoes seasoned to perfection, and usually red cabbage, although I quickly discovered it didn’t agree with me at all. It wasn’t cheap, but for me it was great since I got it for free, and it was the lone Germanic dish I’d have all year, so I’d relish it like I was given gold.
How I stopped worrying and started to enjoy watching curling again
0When I talk sports with friends of mine, it’s always interesting to see what their first sports memory is. For some it’s their first hit playing tball. Others, its a football game they watched with their father. For myself though, mine would be unique in that the sport would be curling. It wouldn’t be a tv event, but watching my father and the team that he was a part of for over two decades playing at the local club’s most prestigious bonspiel, the hootenanny. From what I was told years later, based on the description of the it, it was when the old club still existed, which burnt to the ground decades ago, so pretty decent for a kiddo that could probably barely walk ten steps without falling on his face.
A shoutout to Taha Paksu
3So after about three weeks that has felt like bad luck had taken up residence and wasn’t paying rent, I got some time to work on the ole blog again. And one of the first things that I wanted to do was to restore the album listing that I had in the previous version. So half empecting the multitude of errors and freakouts that it did a few weeks ago, I click on the activate link and….

New Year’s Resolutions, the 2012 version
0Roughly a year ago, I wrote up a list of things that I wanted to achieve for 2011. Coming off getting a new job, things look to be going decently with more earning power and maybe achieving some of the things I had planned for the last few years after all. So in the spirit of keeping that tradition alive, it’s time to have a look see at how well I did, and what will be going on this years list.
