Fantasy Baseball 2012, aka “Watch an amateur draft himself into last place”

As you can probably gather from the title, it’s been a while since I’ve done Fantasy Baseball. In fact, the last time was eight years ago with this guy (who has an awesome last name) was still in the big leagues. So decided to plunge myself into the deep, murky waters again when a forum of uber baseball geeks decided to fire up a league on yahoo’s fantasy sports portal, partly because it was a decent turnout, partly because I knew it’d be a passionate group, and partly because of boredom. So after a Sunday of drafting, laughter, calls of “overdraft!” and the bitching of those hung over from yesterdays festivities, I give you the line-up that I open the season with.

How I stopped worrying and started to enjoy watching curling again

When I talk sports with friends of mine, it’s always interesting to see what their first sports memory is. For some it’s their first hit playing tball. Others, its a football game they watched with their father. For myself though, mine would be unique in that the sport would be curling. It wouldn’t be a tv event, but watching my father and the team that he was a part of for over two decades playing at the local club’s most prestigious bonspiel, the hootenanny. From what I was told years later, based on the description of the it, it was when the old club still existed, which burnt to the ground decades ago, so pretty decent for a kiddo that could probably barely walk ten steps without falling on his face.

Bringing over my more “sporting” literary works

For the last year I’ve been writing for a sports site that I owned named The Sports Blog Network. While it sadly ended up like most sites on the internet and folded due to lack of interest of the populace, it was a good time. Made some new friends, helped some old ones get their portfolio of writing filled out, and overall was a worthwile endevour that maybe one day I’ll look into starting again. (more…)
